A series of paintings and collages exploring the lives of stones and seemingly barren landscapes. The theme merges several influences, while centring my love of fluorescent colour, combining simple architectural and organic forms with ornamental pattern, often teetering and precarious.
The screen printed sunset background is inspired by 1980s Miami posters; the highpoint of glamour to a very young Jessica.
I love the idea of the compressed lives that make up stone coming to life and dancing across a remote tundra, unseen by human eyes.
The formation of the Elephant’s Foot, a mass of corium that burned through the foundations of Chernobyl nuclear power plant has been a constant presence in my imagination in recent years. I am fascinated by nuclear landscapes’ residual toxicity, and the air pollution in industrialised environments that causes so many chronic and terminal illnesses.
