Splanter, 2025. Cardboard, clay, wood, steel, automotive paint, plants. The Hide Installation and Sculpture Showcase, Stroud.
Splanter explores using the wrong tool for the job. Moulding, mushing, angle grinding, turning and sanding cardboard in different forms to create an outdoor plant stand, inspired by Victorian design trends.
The aim is to see how it degrades, and how far to push the tension between structural integrity and preposterous collapse. I planted to attract slugs. In the top bowl they will find their favourite lupin and lettuce, but to get there they have to traverse an assault course of copper tape and bird bath.
