In contrast to the Suffragettes’ direct action, which many people viewed as dangerous, even terrorism, the majority Suffragists were non-violent and advanced a more temperate, political approach. Fawcett’s work was instrumental in moving women towards political and social equality. Visually, the Suffragists combined red, green and white in their paraphernalia, differing from the Suffragettes’ purple, green and white.

To mark the centenary of the first women being given the vote in the U.K, I created a sew-on patch each month of 2018, marking a different element of this historic achievement. 30% of sales went to 3 charities working with women and gender equality: Bradford Women’s Aid, Birthrights and Gendered Intelligence.
